Overview

Course description

AI First Foundations takes learners from zero knowledge to confident, safe everyday use of AI in 16 weeks through 40 short videos, each followed by a quiz. It is Level 1 of 3 in the AI First pathway: Foundations, then Applied, then Advanced. Four modules of ten lessons, one module a month: Meet AI, Talking to AI, AI in Everyday Life, and Using AI Safely and Wisely. Each lesson includes a 6- to 8-minute video and a short quiz. Plan on 2 to 3 lessons a week, about 35 to 50 minutes, for about 11 to 12 hours total. It is for anyone: students, homemakers, working professionals, managers, and older learners. No technical background is needed. Your learning is measured by quizzes only: a quiz after each lesson, a module test each month, and a final exam. There are no projects or assignments. Completing it earns the AI First Foundations certificate (Level 1 of 3) and unlocks the course AI First Applied.

Module 1Meet AI

New to artificial intelligence? Start here. Module 1 takes the fear and mystery out of AI and explains, in everyday words, what it is, where you already use it, and how it learns. By the end, you will be able to explain AI to anyone in one clear sentence.

What you will learn

  • What artificial intelligence is, and how it differs from ordinary software
  • Where you already use AI: in phones, maps, streaming, shopping, and banking
  • The short story of AI, from early computers to today's chat assistants
  • How machines learn from examples, and why the quality of data matters
  • The main kinds of AI: AI that recognizes, predicts, recommends, and creates
  • What generative AI is and how it creates text, images, audio, and video
  • What AI can and cannot do, and how to tell the myths from the facts
  • Why AI works best as a partner to people, not a replacement

Requirements

  • No prior knowledge of AI or technology
  • A phone, tablet, or computer with internet access
  • About 3 hours over four weeks (2 to 3 short lessons a week)
Module 2Talking to AI

Module 2 is where you start using AI for yourself. Step by step, you will set up an AI assistant safely, hold your first conversation, and learn how to ask for exactly what you need: by typing, by speaking, by sharing a picture, and in your own language.

What you will learn

  • What an AI assistant is and how it differs from a search engine
  • How to set up an account safely and check basic privacy settings
  • How to ask a question, read the answer, and ask a good follow up
  • What a prompt is, and how to state your goal, audience, and format clearly
  • How to give helpful background without oversharing personal details
  • How to refine an answer: shorten it, simplify it, change the tone, or try again
  • How to talk to AI with your voice and ask about a photo, document, or screenshot
  • How to use AI in languages such as Urdu, Malay, or Bahasa Indonesia, and translate between them

Requirements

  • Module 1: Meet AI
  • A phone, tablet, or computer with internet access
  • No AI account needed in advance; Lesson 2.2 shows you how to set one up safely
Module 3AI in Everyday Life

Module 3 turns what you have learned into real time savings. Each lesson takes one familiar situation, at home, in your studies, or at work, and shows how AI can help you do it faster and better while you stay in charge.

What you will learn

  • How to draft and polish messages, emails, and letters
  • How to summarize long articles, notices, and documents in minutes
  • How to use AI as a patient tutor that explains topics and creates practice questions
  • How to plan your day, week, and events with to do lists and schedules
  • How to get help with meals, budgets, shopping lists, and family activities
  • How to plan trips, compare options, and translate on the go
  • How to look up health information responsibly and know when to see a professional

  • The AI assistant account you set up in Module 2
  • A phone, tablet, or computer with internet access
Module 4Using AI Safely and Wisely

Module 4 builds the judgment that makes you a trustworthy AI user. You will learn to check what AI tells you, protect your privacy, spot fakes and scams, and use AI fairly and honestly. It completes the level and leads into the final exam for your AI First Foundations certificate.

What you will learn
