Overview

Course description

AI First Advanced gives Applied graduates a clear, non technical understanding of how modern AI works, what AI agents can do, and how to lead AI adoption in a family, school, business, or community, in 16 weeks. It is Level 3 of 3 in the AI First pathway: Foundations, then Applied, then Advanced. Four modules of ten lessons, one module a month: How Modern AI Works, AI Agents and Automation, Leading With AI, and Responsible AI and the Future. Each lesson is a 6 to 8 minute video, then a short quiz. Plan on 2 to 3 lessons a week, about 40 to 50 minutes, for about 12 hours in total. No coding or math is required; concepts are explained with analogies and visuals. Your learning is measured by quizzes only: a quiz after each lesson, a module test each month, and a final exam. Completing it earns the AI First Advanced certificate (Level 3 of 3), plus the AI First Pathway Completion award.

What you will learn

  • Explain how today's AI systems are built and why they behave as they do
  • Describe what AI agents and automation can and cannot safely do
  • Identify and evaluate AI opportunities
  • Guide others to use AI responsibly

Finish first

Requirements

  • AI First Applied certificate
  • No coding or math required
  • A phone, a tablet, or a computer
  • About 40 to 50 minutes a week

Modules

4 modules, one opens every 30 days. Open a module to watch its intro and read what it covers.

Module 1How Modern AI Works

Module 1 opens the "black box" in plain language. With no coding or math, you will understand how today's AI systems are built and why they behave the way they do, including why they sometimes get things wrong.

What you will learn

  • How systems that learn from data differ from rule based programs
  • How neural networks find patterns, explained with everyday analogies
  • How large language models are trained to predict the next word
  • What tokens and context windows are, and why AI "forgets" in long conversations
  • How fine tuning and human feedback shape AI to be helpful and safe
  • How one AI system can work with text, images, sound, and video
  • How mistakes, bias, and outdated knowledge link back to how models are built
  • How AI looks up information before answering, and how open, closed, cloud, and on device AI differ

Requirements

  • AI First Applied certificate
  • No coding or math required
  • A phone, tablet, or computer with internet access
Module 2AI Agents and Automation

AI is moving from answering to acting. Module 2 explains what AI agents are, how they plan and carry out tasks for you, and how to use them with the right human oversight.

What you will learn

  • What makes an AI agent different from a chat assistant
  • The plan, act, check, and repeat cycle that agents follow
  • How agents connect to email, calendars, files, and websites
  • How custom AI assistants are set up with instructions and knowledge files
  • No code automation basics: triggers, actions, and workflows
  • Practical uses for agents at home and at work
  • How to decide which steps need human review or approval
  • The risks of agents, and a simple checklist for deciding what to automate

Requirements

  • Module 1: How Modern AI Works
  • No coding required
  • Your AI assistant account; access to agent or automation tools is optional
Module 3Leading With AI

Module 3 prepares you to spot, evaluate, and guide AI adoption, whether you lead a household, a classroom, a team, or a company.

What you will learn

  • How to think "AI first" and see where AI could help in everyday work
  • How to separate high value, low risk uses from poor fits
  • Common uses of AI in education, healthcare, retail, finance, and government
  • How to compare building, buying, or using ready made tools
  • How to estimate time saved, costs, and value in simple terms
  • Why organized, good quality data matters for AI projects
  • How to lead people through change and help them adopt AI with confidence
  • How to write a simple AI use policy, measure success, and teach others about AI

Requirements

  • Modules 1 and 2 of AI First Advanced
  • No management title needed; the ideas apply to any group you guide
  • A phone, tablet, or computer with internet access
Module 4Responsible AI and the Future

The final module gives you the ethical, legal, and future facing understanding expected of an informed AI leader. It completes the AI First pathway and leads into the final exam for your AI First Advanced certificate.

What you will learn

  • The principles of responsible AI: fairness, transparency, accountability, privacy, and safety
  • The general direction of AI laws and regulations around the world
  • How to apply consent and data protection basics to AI use
  • When and how to tell people that AI is being used
  • How AI affects news, elections, and public trust
  • The energy and resource footprint of AI
  • How jobs are changing and which human skills grow in value
  • How values and culture shape responsible AI use, and how to judge claims about the future calmly

Requirements

  • Modules 1 to 3 of AI First Advanced
  • A phone, tablet, or computer with internet access
